I haven't had any problems with it yet? The people in my world, witches and wizards, tend to use wands to cast their spells. I learned how to cast spells without a wand when I was in school and I worked hard on getting better at it in the Drabwurld.
Think of them like a tool to direct our magic. When you're first learning it's hard and so wands help you with casting and make things easier, because you can use the movements with the spells and they can be used as something personal to help direct what you're doing. When you're better with magic you don't have to rely on it so much, but wands are still important and a part of us. They choose the wizard, after all.
I imagine you could enchant it, if you wanted to, but I've never tried. Is that a problem you're having?
Wands choose? Is that a metaphor for something? It's not a problem I'm having just yet, but it will be soon. I had a guy make the snow and enchant it to not melt for a while, but he'll have to come by and periodically redo the enchantment. The problem with that is, he's scared of foxes, and the snow is for a fox park. So, I'm trying to find someone else who can.
No, I mean quite literally in the sentient kind of way. They're not alive, exactly, but they're magical themselves and so they know what kind of witch or wizard they'd harmonise with best.
Ah, I see. I'm sure I could figure something out, if you wanted me to have a look at it sometime soon?
[Sure enough, once she gets to the Iskaulit, there is a room covered in snow, with Nightingale inside, playing with a fox. And tossing snowballs that it's trying to bite out of the air.]
[ Hermione is quick to find the snow-filled room, stepping inside with wide eyes and a touch of wonder. When she spots Nightingale she smiles, walking over with her arms crossed. ]
You are, yes. It was, a few times, and once there was a long month of snow and freezing weather because of one of the Gods, but other than that it felt like most other places.
[ Hermione pauses, stepping forward and looking around. ]
Hm... I think I could make something work. I might have to come and redo it a few times, but it should hold.
[She makes a small noise of distaste, then continues on.]
If it would be easier for you, do you think you could show me how it works? If I could do it myself, you wouldn't need to bother coming out here to redo it.
I could try? I learned with a wand, but considering I don't really have that here... It's definitely something I could try and do, since you have magic already.
It's just a simple weather modifying charm. There's a counter-spell, too, just in case, and a staff should be just as good as a wand. We could try together?
It's more of a pause spell than an actual weather spell. Consider it a charm, that persuades the weather to stay.
[ Hermione reaches into her pocket, tugging out a notepad and a pen, skipping forward to a blank page before she sits and writes the charm, handing it over. ]
There is, technically, wand movements, but I think just having your staff in-hand and doing what you normally do should work?
I suppose... Ice-aspected mana is probably the way to go? We're keeping it from melting by freezing it, in a way. So I would just... channel that mana into my voice for an incantation?

It's Nightingale.
Can I ask a couple questions about your magic?

Re: text
I know some people have lost the equipment they need to use it.

Still don't understand how it's wands that are so important, but that's beside the point.
Can you enchant snow so that it doesn't melt?

I'd like that, though.
When will you be available?

I'm not really doing anything, so I'm free when you are!

This is really something, isn't it?

It really is. This kind of magic is so far beyond me that it's incredible.

[ She reaches out, touching the snow before she fights back her smile and focusses on her friend. ]
You just want it to last, right?

[She nods.]
Yeah. It needs to not melt even on this ship, even with a bunch of people and foxes playing in it.
