[ Hermione does try, valiantly, to keep her head above water when it comes to the ins and outs of information, but word of mouth can be quite useful. ]
Well, I have to be honest, it seems like I could spend the rest of my time here researching this and probably not find out everything. So, this might not be the best options out there, but just a few that I thought would be easiest and fastest to help us.
I read a lot about natural things used in protective spells, things that we could find commonly like acorns or salt. If we used that around perimeters of homes, we could keep people safer.
As for the entire territory, I think the best way would be runes. I didn't get too much refined research on that, it seems like a whole different animal, but it's at least a place to start if you want to further research.
Salt, really? I suppose I should have imagined it, but I never thought something so simple could be used for protection.
[ She knew enough about runes and protective magic herself to get by, but this is information she's going to spread around as much as possible, especially for newcomers. ]
If you're interested in learning more about protective runes I have some books and notes I could share with you?
Dinners might be a little bland, but it'd be worth it.
( she's surprised too. she still expects magic to be a lot more spectacular. salt and acorns? not what she was expecting. )
If you can spare them? Sure. ( she almost surprises herself with that answer, but it seems as if runes are quite an intensive thread of magic here—there might be more to it than just barriers. )
Pretty sure it'll be good for people, actually. ( and not just for the fact it could be dedicated to protection instead. low sodium diets were still healthy in a drabwurld, right?
it is really not her normal method of problem solving, granted, but maybe she has to try any angle she can to find her answers. so it's worth a shot. ) Thanks. ( it's genuine—and more about the book than the reward. ) If I find out anything more, I'll let you know.

What did you find out?

[ Which is true. They've gone through worse - what's a little salt? At least it's not something dramatic like dittany.
Emma's willingness makes Hermione sound a little brighter, though. ]
I can do that! I'll send it over with your reward for completing the quest. It'll be a duplicated copy, so you can keep it as long as you want.

I'll send everything over in a few minutes, with a faerie. Let me know if you need anything else, okay?

( she wishes she could have learned more, really. maybe with more time she can. )

( it'd been frustrating, and tiring... but it hadn't been hard. if anything Emma wishes she could have found out more. )
I hope it helps.
