Oh, he was in my mind all the time. I don't think there's any doubt about that.

[ Then she shifts, fiddling with the mix of necklaces and charms and dog tags around her neck. From the muddle she draws out the gear Erik had given her, so long ago, and holds it up. ]

I don't take mine lightly either.

[He shakes his head slightly, though his expression is light.]

If you make any more friends, you might keel over from the weight of all those.

It's fine. They're all important - dog tags from my dad, your gear, the wedding ri - I mean.

[He raises an eyebrow at that.]

No doubt. But, a wedding ring?

[ Is Erik going to be the first person she tells about this? Apparently. ]

There was... Someone, in the Drabwurld. He proposed to me more times than I'd like to remember and kept calling me his 'Queen' even when I told him not to. Utterly insufferable, really, he was a prat.

He does sound like it. [And also like someone who refused to take 'no' for an answer.] And yet, you have the ring.

He was my friend. [ Hermione smiles, almost a little sheepish. ] And I loved him, in my own way.

But not the way he wanted.

[That much is evident.] I can't imagine how Charles would have reacted if I behaved that way towards him.

No. I'm pretty sure if he turned up here he'd destroy the place looking for his 'queen'.

[ But - oh, hang on. She turns her gaze to look up at Erik. ]

[grandstanding]

Yes. For quite a while. [He says it lightly, but he still pays attention to what she does next. For all the open-mindedness he's encountered in other worlds, there's always an element of doubt. Neither he or Charles goes around telegraphing their relationship unless asked.]

[ And all that Hermione does is soften, stepping up without any pause - which, really, she ought to have - to wrap her arms around Erik gently. ]

That's wonderful. I had no idea.

[He can't help stiffening slightly at the sudden contact, an automatic reaction. After a moment he manages to relax, though it's not an action he returns.]

We don't talk about it much.

[ She moves back once she's given him the tightest hug she can manage, her arms resting on his gently. ]

[He's never entirely sure what to say to this kind of sentiment. After an awkward pause, he just nods.]

[ She smiles, nodding her head. Now she's even happier that it's his Charles that's here. ]
