I went back in time a few hours to help my best friend save his godfather from having his soul kissed away by creatures called Dementors.

You made it sound like you did something wrong. I would ask more about everything else you said, but I'm going to save that for when I see you. Saving someone doesn't seem like abuse, unless they're a bad person. I'd use time travel if I could have saved my friends.

It was still technically illegal! Not that I regret it, of course, and I did have the headmaster's permission to do it. I wonder - does using a potion to transform into someone else count as better or worse than time travel?

You're asking about stuff I never would have thought of, but in general I'm a believer in that as long as you're doing the wrong thing for the right reason, it doesn't make it bad.

That's a relief. I'd like to think that the things we did, breaking rules and laws, weren't wrong; we were trying to save our friends, our families.

War never follows any rules, why should those forced in the middle of it?

How do you know who's good in the end if you don't try to follow them?

I'm not saying break them all, but when the time calls for it, not everything can be rigid and to the book.

Hey: What's a dementor? I've never heard of those.

A Dementor is a dark creature that drains hope and happiness out of the air around them. They're creatures that feed on happy memories and try to suck them out of you - and if they're not controlled they can even suck out your soul.

They're as horrible as they sound, unfortunately.

And I thought we had enough hope drained by the nazis.

I think Dementors are almost as awful. It's not really right to compare, though.

No, it's not. And one is closer to me than you, and vice versa. They sound horrific. Why would anyone create something like that?

It's hard to see things as they are when you've faced them or they're something that's very personal to you. They're just magical creatures, it's not something they choose to do. A lion can't not eat meat.

So they just exist, naturally? They sound like something created for war. Or manipulated to that, at least.
